More Coos Adventures.

Yesterday I awoke to find fog snuggled in the valley outside our windows. It was gorgeous, cottony white and wispy. Didn’t last long because the sun burst out and the sky was blue and gin-clear and it was warm. Ran around all day without a sweater! Ohhhh, Coos heat wave. We started out running errands and had to stop by the Coos Bay Library. The Friends of the Library were having a book sale! I was good, I only came out with one bag full – a big $4.75. The Friends has a sale nine times a year, so of course I joined and said I’d help. I’m not stupid – volunteers get first choice of books!

As we wandered through town, my husband, Dennis noticed that “To Catch a Thief” was playing at the Egyptian theater. Yes, the one filmed in 1955! Den asked if I wanted to go and of course I said yes. We hopped over to Luigi’s for a Garbage Grinder to go for dinner – yummy, burp. One thing I love about Coos is – you never have to worry about attire. It’s always, “Coos Casual.” We got to the theater at 6:50 – ten minutes before show time. Den asked the lady in the ticket booth how much tickets were and she said, “Seven dollars.” “Each?” he asked. Nope, seven dollars for both of us! We stopped at the concession stand for a BIG bag of popcorn and it cost – $2.00. It was so large we couldn’t even finish the bag! So, our Saturday evening date cost a big $9.00!!!

One of the volunteers got up on the stage before the beginning of the movie to give a little preview about what’s coming to the Egyptian. They have concerts, beauty pageants as well as other movies. He also mentioned that anyone who could spot Alfred Hitchcock during the movie would get a free ticket for the next event! The movie started and it was fun to watch, in spite of the fact that I remembered half way through who the bad guy was. Grace Kelly was so lovely and ….skinny! Oy.  And say what you will about Cary Grant, that man knew how to wear a tuxedo. We loved the scenes of the Riviera and marveled at all the rich folk who would dress for dinner in Tuxes and long gowns! Whatever happened to those days? So, the show ended at 9:00 and I went to the concession stand to see if anyone had claimed the free ticket ‘cause I sure saw Alfred! Well, pretty much everyone saw him so….we all got free tickets! We walked to the parking lot, drove home and arrived at 9:05. You gotta love living in a small town.

Today we had misty rain all day. We drove to Winchester Bay to join our RV-ing friends for lunch. Had seafood, of course, at a neat little restaurant on the bay. After lunch our friend, Paul, drove us to the Elk preserve but…no Elk! I guess they were staying dry under the trees. It was fun to see our friends again as we’ve known the couple for over 40 years.

Came home, snuggled with the puppies, read a while and took a wee nap. Another wonderful adventure in Coos Bay.
